Does Northwestern offer an undergraduate course or degree in English as a second language (ESL)?
No. Northwestern University does not offer undergraduate courses in English as a second language.
Does Northwestern provide health care or have medical facilities?
The Northwestern University Health Service, located on the Evanston campus, offers quality health care by professional staff. Nearby Evanston Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital also provide comprehensive medical care. For more information review the information on the Health Services web site.
Where do international students live?
International (freshman and transfer) students are encouraged to live on campus because it helps them become familiar with the Evanston/Chicago area, develop lasting friendships with other Northwestern students, and make use of Northwestern's many resources and organizations. All freshmen are guaranteed housing in a University residence. Housing after freshman year is not formally guaranteed, but most students continue to live on campus.
Detailed housing information will be sent to all admitted students. There are many varieties of housing at Northwestern. The International Studies Residential College, a residence hall centered around international culture and activities, has attracted a number of students. However, international students are welcome to live in any of Northwestern's residence halls or colleges. Visit www.northwestern.edu/housing/ to learn more.
I live in a foreign country. Is it difficult to visit Northwestern's campus?
Most international students are unable to visit Northwestern before applying. However, if you have the opportunity to visit the Chicago area, you should have no problem including Northwestern as part of your visit. Chicago has two major airports and both are not far from Northwestern. The Evanston campus sits on the shore of Lake Michigan and is less than an hour from the center of Chicago and is easily accessible by public transportation.
