Practicum

Practicums allow students to apply their academic training through off-campus internships. Students in the secondary teaching program observe a classroom at work for one quarter and teach for another. Students in the other three programs devote one quarter to working in a corporation, law firm, or other organization. Established practicum sites exist in Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Funding for these collaborations comes from various agencies like the Lucent Technologies Foundation, the Quaker Oats Company, the MacArthur Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. Companies that have participated in practicums include

  • Accenture
  • American Bar Association
  • American Civil Liberties Union
  • Baxter Healthcare Corporation
  • Better Government Association
  • The Center for Learning and Organizational Change
  • Chicago Board of Education
  • Chicago Board of Trade
  • Children's Memorial Hospital
  • Circuit Court of Cook County
  • The Inner-City Teaching Corps
  • The Institute for Policy Research
  • Merrill Lynch
