6th - 9th grade
Thanks for checking out the Web site for Northwestern University's Office of Undergraduate Admission. We're glad you are taking an early interest in college. Check out the information provided on this site, then check back when you reach 10th grade; we'll start mailing you information at that time. It won't be too long before you are filling out applications, getting teacher recommendations, and writing your application essays.
Before you get to that point, though, there are a few things you can do that will give you the best chance to get into the college of your choice. First, you should concentrate on academics. No matter what level you are at in school — elementary, junior high, or high school — it is important that you take your studies seriously.
You should take the most challenging classes available at your school and earn the best possible grades. Your academic record is the foundation of your college application. The better it is, the more options you will have when it comes to choosing a college.
But grades aren't everything. If you have a talent for the arts or athletics, science or math, or even if you just like to help people through volunteer work, then you should pursue those interests. A well-balanced application consists of both strong academic work and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
We hope this site helps you learn more about Northwestern and the college experience. Good luck in the coming years!
